We have an exciting opportunity for a remote IT Manager - Platform Engineering to join the Ferguson IT organization. Platform Services Engineering is one of the three instrumental services engineering groups as part of the Ferguson Digital Engineering pillar. This team will be responsible for delivering highly performant application platform capabilities, managing platform performance in all environments, defining architecture and engineering patterns and techniques, solving for cross cutting concerns supporting software engineering teams. The DevSecOps Platform Eng. Manager would be accountable for developing and executing on our Platform Services Engineering vision and strategy.

This position may be remote or hybrid in accordance with company policy. Our ideal candidate should be located in either the Eastern or Central time zones, as the role requires working hours aligned with the East Coast time zone.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Drive the improvement of the Developer Experience through the adoption of new software solutions/tools/techniques while planning the retirement of legacy solutions.

  • Build and manage a diverse and impactful team, through recruiting, hiring, training, coaching, developing, and rewarding team members.

  • Develop goals and team development plan for associates.

  • Continuously improve platform engineering practices and proactively identify risks and implement strategies that eliminate or mitigate those risks.

  • Work within and across product squads to design, develop, test, implement and support technical solutions across a full stack of development tools and technologies.

  • Lead the solution architectures, designs, availability, resilience, and scalability of the platforms.

  • Demonstrate passion and drive to learn modern technology trends, experimentation with modern technologies as it helps improve our legacy technology in our efforts to modernize software applications across environments and aligned with business needs and priorities.

  • Lead a team of solution architects and software engineers through modern ways of working, defining sound strategies, outcome-based platform improvements, and always driving accountability.

  • Ability to drive the team towards automating repetitive tasks using automation tooling to provide efficient infrastructure management and scaling.

  • Iteratively improve the CI/CD DevSecOps processes in design, implement, review, and modernization for on prem and cloud applications through automation of deployment, performance, functional testing, and monitoring deployed software processes.

  • Collaborate with development teams to embrace DevSecOps best practices and facilitate a culture of continuous improvement.

  • Federate the software engineering capabilities in delivering high quality secure APIs through API Management solutions.

  • Responsible for effective project management and delivery of work requests for committed projects within budget.

  • Provide cost estimates, business case updates, manages statement of work and finance aspects of it with our department and finance.

  • Ability to effectively engage with support teams in troubleshooting software issues through hands-on coding and leading towards resolution through coordination of activities across cross-functional squads.

  • Build strong relationships with IT leaders, Software Product Managers, and IT Operational leaders and seek feedback for continuous improvement.

  • Adhere to Company compliance and Health Safety and Environment (HSE) policies, procedures, and requirements.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Associate is expected to operate at the functional level across the following areas of technical knowledge and skill:

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science or related field preferred.

  • Must have at least 5 years of hands-on experience working in services integrations with a breadth of knowledge and experience on how platform engineering empowers integration within and across different business domains.

  • Prior supervisory and team management experience with information technology personnel and offshore/onsite consults preferred.

  • Software programming background in Java Software Architecture and Engineering highly preferred.

  • Having experience in DevSecOps, CI/CD, pipeline development, hands-on cloud PaaS platform modernization background is preferred.

  • Must have experience creating operational dashboards, telemetry configurations and alerting templates for end-to-end flow of data services using APM and Data Logging solutions such as AppDynamics, DataDog etc.

  • Experience in managing stable legacy java based platforms, JVM optimizations and hybrid environment (cloud and on prem) is highly preferred.

  • Must be a hands-on software engineer to assist with a cross functional team of software engineers, software architects and software quality engineers as needed.

  • Strong knowledge and experience implementing software design patterns and modern standards.

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal relationship building skills.

  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to deliver compelling presentations.

Pay Range:

Actual pay rate may vary depending upon location. The estimated pay range for this position is below. The specific rate will depend on a candidate’s qualifications and prior experience.

$7,568.91 - $13,247.76

Estimated Ranges displayed are Monthly for Salaried roles OR Hourly for all other roles.

This role is Bonus or Incentive Plan eligible.
