Summary About the Position: This position will be filled at a DB-04 (GS-12-14) in the Office of Technical Directors in the Information Technology Laboratory as any of the below series: General Engineer, 0801 Architect, 0808 Civil Engineer, 0810 Computer Engineer, 0854 Electronics Engineer, 0855 Physicist, 1310 Mathematician, 1520 Operations Research Analyst, 1515 Computer Scientist, 1550 Responsibilities Assists technical directors in data science and analytics, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, augmented reality and virtual reality, cloud computing, and autonomy to support Civil Works research and development teams across the ERDC. Use technical knowledge and skills in AI, including machine learning, machine perception, robotics, autonomy, knowledge representation, and reasoning to support the research and development efforts within ITL. Leads a highly technical work force in new and demanding research areas and keen business skills to develop and direct complex technical programs from planning to marketing through execution and technology transfer. Leads development of novel AI solutions that support the ERDC’s mission in components of intelligence such as learning, reasoning, problem-solving, perception, language understanding, statistical methods, and neural networks. Manages and directs complex technical programs from planning and marketing to execution and transition of technologies for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Army, the Department of Defense, and the Nation. Prepares and reviews technical reports, technical presentations, peer-reviewed articles, white papers, briefing material, and written correspondence to higher authority and outside agencies relating to assigned research projects. Assists in maintaining working relationships with stakeholders, academia, private industry, and other government agencies to develop project requirements and ensure program alignment. Collates goals and other research and development strategic materials to aid in developing future technical direction in areas of cyber security, advanced data analytics, digital twin, augmented and virtual reality, robotics, and autonomy, etc. Supports data calls, stakeholder visits, critical reporting, including synthesis of program materials and budget information. Develops, disseminates, and presents briefings, information papers, and other products supporting the ITL Office of Technical Directors, senior leadership, and USACE partners. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. This position is covered by the Science and Technology Laboratory Personnel Management Demonstration Project at the DB-XXXX-04 (equivalent to GS-12-14). In accordance with the Federal Register Vol. 63, No. 57, dated March 25, 1998, Laboratory Demonstration Project employees must have a current average performance score of at least 2.5 or equivalent (fully successful rating) for promotion consideration."
