Wildlife Resources Job Title: Native Forb Project Biologist Job Description:  * The Utah Division of Wildlife is seeking a dynamic and motivated Habitat Biologist to join our team at the Great Basin Research Center in Ephraim,Utah. The successful candidate will be responsible for researching and developing cultural practices,propagation protocols,and seed-cleaning processes for native plant species (primarily forbs and grasses). This role involves working with conventional farming equipment on a small research farm,testing various herbicide and irrigation treatments,and producing plant materials that can be used to restore and enhance wildlife habitat in Utah and throughout the West. *Principal duties:

  • Oversee and maintain research plots including planting,cultivating,weeding,watering,and harvesting
  • Implement,monitor,and evaluate the success of various irrigation and herbicide treatments on native plants in lab,greenhouse,
  • and farm settings
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of research activities
  • Collaborate with other team members and external partners to develop research priorities and publish findings
  • Hire and supervise a seasonal crew to assist with research plot maintenance and plant material processing

The Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate will have:

  • Understanding of plant ecology and agricultural practices
  • Familiarity with conventional farming equipment (tractor,combine,seed drill,tillage implements,etc.)
  • Experience with irrigation systems,pesticide/herbicide application,and pest management
  • Familiarity with basic statistical analysis methods and statistical software
  • Excellent communication,collaboration,and problem-solving skills
  • The ability to work under extreme conditions and/or inclement weather

Preference will be given to candidates with a bachelor s degree in a natural resources field. Additional preference will be given to candidates with a master's degree in a wildlife-related natural resources field or other applicable fields that benefit the position. Preference for years of demonstrated successful full-time work experience will vary based on the specific position. Retirement - Utah Retirement Systems (URS):

  • Employees who have any service credit with an employer covered by the Utah Retirement Systems before 7/1/2011 are in the Tier I Public Employees System.
  • Employees hired on or after 7/1/2011 and who have never been in the URS retirement system have two options for retirement in the Tier II System.

Paid Time Off:

  • Annual leave and sick leave are accrued at 4 hours per pay period each (4 hours annual,4 hours sick).
