Job Title:  Forestry Fire Program Manager II Job Description: Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to gain experience in forestry,fire,and sovereign land programs in the southeastern area of the state? If so,the Division of Forestry,Fire & State Lands (FFSL) encourages you to apply for the Southeast Area Manager position to oversee these programs in Carbon,Emery,Grand,and San Juan Counties in coordination with and as part of the leadership team guiding the Division. The Southeast Area s main office is located in Moab,with a satellite office in Price. Your primary work location would be in Moab,but some of your time could be split between the two. Principal Duties:

  • Monitor the area budget and assist in budget preparation and allocation processes; approve expenditures; track grants and funds for numerous forestry,fire,and sovereign lands programs and projects in coordination with and following the guidance and procedures developed by the Division s leadership team. 
  • Write reports,staff and leadership memorandums,correspondence,and presentations. 
  • Manage and monitor area information and education programs in cooperation with the Division's Public Information Officer; provide the public with information about the Division and Area programs and activities. 
  • Represent the State's interests during wildfires and coordinate closely with other fire,emergency,and land management agencies.   
  • Build relationships,be responsive to internal and external stakeholders,and work collaboratively with them.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • A working knowledge of forestry management programs,fire suppression and prevention,fuels management,and sovereign lands principles,as well as land and resource management experience. 
  • The ability to collaborate and foster relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • A willingness to be on-call 24/7 from June 1 through October 31,depending on wildfire conditions.
  • The desire to learn from,communicate openly with,and be responsive to Area staff and Division leadership.
  • An understanding of the internal and external politics of working in a government agency.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • The desire to be innovative and forward-thinking.
  • An understanding of the importance of a work/life balance.
  • The ability to be an advocate for the Area and staff and will be an effective liaison to the State Office.
  • Is willing to learn the breadth of the Division and the Area and identify how better planning can help each program.
