Job Title: Pharmacy Technician

Reports To: Pharmacy Director

FLSA Status: Non Exempt

 

Summary:

The Pharmacy Technician assists the Pharmacists with ensuring customers receive the correct medications as quickly as possible. This person will assist customers both in person and over the phone, submitting refill requests, submitting insurance claims, filing prescription paperwork, filling prescriptions and cleaning the pharmacy.

 

Pharmacist Job Responsibilities:

  • Follows established departmental and company policies and procedures

  • Ensures the pharmacy is clean, sanitized and well maintained

  • Enters new prescriptions into the system

  • Delivers excellent customer service while assisting customers at the pharmacy counter, drive-thru, and over the phone

  • Complies with state and federal drug laws as regulated by the state board of pharmacy, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Food and Drug Administration

  • Protects patients by adhering to infection-control protocols

  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.

  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers/patients or employees of organization.

 

Math Ability:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word; Microsoft Excel; and Internet Explorer. Accuracy in typing is essential to successful performance of assigned duties.

 

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Completion of a Pharmacy Technician training program or equivalent experience

  • Current Pharmacy Technician certification (or ability to obtain certification within 6 months of hire)

  • Strong attention to detail and accur cy

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Basic computer skills

  • Previous experience working in a pharmacy or healthcare setting

  • Knowledge of pharmacy laws and regulations

  • Familiarity with pharmacy software and technology
