Responsibilities

The Division of Clinical Biochemistry and Immunology in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, is seeking a candidate for a Senior Associate Consultant faculty position serving as the Co-Director of the Clinical Mass Spectrometry Laboratory. The position will provide clinical and scientific direction and oversight to the testing performed in the laboratory, with primary focus on endocrine testing and therapeutic drug monitoring, as well as active participation in clinical and translational research, education and practice transformation through automation and methodology advancement. The Clinical Mass Spectrometry Laboratory performs over 2.5 million tests per year, using a fleet of over 35 mass spectrometers.

The Division of Clinical Biochemistry and Immunology includes 17 clinical laboratory directors and pathologists who oversee 8 clinical laboratories providing a broad range of diagnostic testing for both the internal Mayo Clinic practice and the Mayo Clinic Laboratories (MCL) reference laboratory. Our faculty are committed to excellence in clinical practice, education, and translational research.

Qualifications

Qualified individuals will possess an M.D. or a Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field, and have at least 3 years of experience in clinical testing using mass spectrometry. Candidates must be board-certified or board-eligible in Clinical Chemistry and/or Clinical Pathology. Excellent communication, technical – including mass spectrometry, chromatography, sample extraction – and trouble-shooting skills and the ability to manage and partner with teams of scientists and other healthcare professionals are essential.
