USU RESEARCH FOUNDATION Software Systems Engineer in NORTH LOGAN, Utah

The Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is a leading provider of software solutions for processing, exploitation, and dissemination of sensor data in challenging communication environments. We specialize in modular open architecture designs that enable fast integration of multiple data sources, transport across tactical networks, and output to various user interfaces. Our software runs on a variety of compact, rugged devices across a dispersed and dynamic network topology. These systems frequently undergo field testing and feedback is collected from users to rapidly mature and refine the technology.

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Software Systems Engineer to join our team to assist with fast-paced, impactful projects. In this role, you will work closely with our government customer, our software development team, and other contractor teams to develop a system that will be the central integration point for many previously stove-piped systems. You will have the opportunity to integrate the software with the physical layer, working with a variety of hardware components such as sensor systems, unmanned platforms, embedded compute devices, tactical radios, etc.

Key Responsibilities: * Serve as the lead system integrator for a broad team of government and contractor personnel during the lead up and execution of technology demonstration events across multiple projects and customers * Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and implement networking architectures that support seamless communication between various devices and systems * Create and maintain documentation that describes the system components, network design, and interface definitions * Optimize messaging protocols and schemas to enhance data transmission efficiency, security, and reliability * Work closely with the customer to understand development, integration, and test objectives and translate them into actionable plans that define timelines, milestones, and measures of success * Maintain a knowledge of ongoing software development and functionality; leverage that knowledge to contribute to software design and architecture roadmaps * Create processes and recommend technologies to improve software testing, with an emphasis on automation * Provide onsite support at integration, test, and demonstration events Required Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Software Systems Engineering * 10+ years of software engineering experience and 5+ years of relevant systems engineering experience * Proficiency in C/C++ programming languages with a strong understanding of software design principles * Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, architectures, protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, etc.) and communication technologies (CCNA Certification is preferred) * Ability to create, maintain, and describe complex system diagrams including the following types: network, functional, data flow, interface * Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment * Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal * Availability to travel to field test events for up to 2 weeks at a time * Must be a US citizen and able to obtain DoD security clearance Preferred Qualifications: * Experience with Agile software development practices and Atlassian development tools * Familiarity with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and DoD architecture models, modeling languages, and standards * Familiarity with messaging protocols (JSON, JREAP, VMF, Protobuf) and data formats (H.264, NITF, STANAG) * Experience with embedded compute devices and wireless data links used by the US military * Active DoD security clearance SDL supports a variety of missions, including NASA's vision to reveal the...
