Job Summary and Qualifications

The Lead Transporter assists in the efficient operation of the Medical Center by organizing the transportation staff to respond effectively to requests for patient movement between departments. This role involves both patient transportation and administrative duties, including employee scheduling, process improvement, service recovery, Kronos timekeeping, and managing the daily operations of the transportation department.

What You Will Do In This Role:

• You will coordinate and prioritize appropriate transport personnel to support requests for service from user departments.

• You will enter, correct, and pull pertinent data from the Teletracking database when required.

• You will assist the Transport Manager in developing new initiatives for patient transport and discharge services.

• You will hold transporters accountable to I.C.A.R.E values and department/individual transport times, together with the Transport Manager.

• You will maintain a schedule that enables the transport department to effectively respond to volume fluctuations in the facility.

• You will assist with Kronos as assigned.

• You will respond to pages and phone calls from user departments, troubleshooting issues when necessary.

• You will function as the first-line supervisor in assigning duties, training, absentee coverage, and other requirements to maintain appropriate department staffing levels.

• You will ensure an appropriate amount of equipment is available to transporters and that equipment is returned to its designated area after each use.

• You will participate in the interview process and understand the “hire for fit” philosophy.

• You will participate in disciplinary actions to the degree prescribed by the manager.

• You will ensure that competencies are completed by all new staff members before they work independently.

• You will present a pleasant, professional, and tidy image to all customers and employees of our facility.

• You will attend Team Lead meetings.

• You will facilitate transporters' ability to attend monthly staff meetings.

• You will promote the customer service initiative by adhering to the ICARE values.

• You will comply with quarterly targeted metrics (e.g., Kronos, HealthStream, PACS, etc.).

• You will maintain all current certifications required for the position.

What Qualifications You Will Need:

• Patient care experience, transporter, or caregiver experience strongly preferred.

• AHA BLS Healthcare Provider certification upon hire.

• Strong customer service and critical thinking skills.

• Previous healthcare or leadership experience is a plus.
