Your Role and Responsibilities

IBM is the worldwide leading provider of application runtimes, devops, and hybrid cloud platform technologies (collectively, Application Platform Services). Our technology powers most of the planet, including banks, financial services companies, airlines, insurance companies, retailers, automobile manufacturers, healthcare companies, and governments. We are investing significantly to grow our multi-billion dollar business in this space, to add to our market leading hybrid cloud application platform.

We are looking for an application development expert with an entrepreneurial mindset to join our team, and hone our strategy for the future. This person will be the lead strategist across a multi-billion dollar business. S/he must know how to identify trends in the market, and have a nose for opportunity and differentiated value. This candidate must be collaborative and communicative, in order to work across the organization to get ideas embraced and implemented.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

• Develop and communicate the vision for the future (in collaboration with product portfolio managers), for our multi-billion dollar business.

• Identify disruptive trends (and associated opportunities for IBM) in application development, deployment, and management.

• Research and understand competitive alternatives to our current technology, as well as our roadmap & vision.

• Conceive and develop strategies to exploit competitive vulnerabilities,

• Advise product portfolio managers and executive team on all research, identified trends/opportunities, and competitive intelligence.

• Act as subject matter expert for client presentations, design thinking workshops

• Work with customers & Business Partners to understand pain points, discuss enhancement requests, evangelize product capabilities, and engage various disciplines to ensure customer satisfaction.

• Create and deliver customer facing activities including delivery of blogs and live demos on new capabilities using strong communication and presentation skills.

• Lead and guide Product team members to conduct market research and competitive study regularly.

• Own, lead and drive the submission of analyst responses for annual reports.

• Work with product management leadership and sales leadership around the world to understand and track the health and adoption of product offers and gather feedback.

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

• Understanding of the capabilities provided by hyperscalers (Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud), and how application developers are using them.

• Understanding and currency in cloud native application development approaches & trends (e.g. reactive programming, serverless, event-based architecture, etc.)

• Understanding and currency in leading programming languages, their frameworks, and communities (e.g. Java, Python, Javascript, Rust, Go, etc.)

• Understanding of emerging capabilities in generative AI, including its usage in developing software application code, test cases, etc.

• Working understanding of containers, Kubernetes, and hybrid cloud platforms (like OpenShift).

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

• Proven ability to synthesize complex topics into easy-to-understand stories.

• Proven ability to translate feedback into user requirements.

• Proven ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams to achieve business objectives.

• Proven ability to work with Design and Development teams.

• Proven ability to present to executives and large enterprise customers.
