Position Summary

Screens all referrals to the Family/Juvenile Court and perform all tasks associated with case processing prior to the initial hearing, including but not limited to crisis intervention, behavior management, family interventions, case planning and management, court scheduling, and report writing.

This is a night position 7p-7a, rotating schedule

Position Responsibilities

-Review all status and delinquency referrals; Complete risk assessment to determine the need for release options or detention; Screen cases and make filing recommendation.

-Complete data entry in the case management system and schedule appropriate hearings or appointments

-Conduct interviews with youth and family in Intake or FYI; Obtain & verify additional information with outside agencies when appropriate;

-Write preliminary inquires and other reports for court and complete other case-related documents as appropriate associated with our means of intervention.

-Notify parents of youth's arrest and subsequent court-related responsibilities; Complete release process including crisis intervention or de-escalation with family members to ensure youth's successful return home

-Assess youth's needs to create an appropriate case plan and determine the need for additional case management if case is not being referred through the formal court process; Provide referral information to link youth/family to community-based services

-Coordinate with Youth Intake Officers on detained youth to expedite processing; assist with processing when necessary including but not limited to fingerprinting, photographs, showering, urine collection, etc.

-Transport youth to emergency shelter care

-Assist the Community Adjustment Unit with implementing and monitoring alternatives which may include making curfew calls, completing electronic monitoring hook-ups, and responding to inquiries related to the release programs, etc.

-Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

The minimum of a Bachelor's degree, preferably in the field of Criminal Justice or Criminology. Previous internship in probation helpful.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Required to pass the Probation Officers Certification Examination for Indiana within six months of employment as a probation officer and obtain IRAS/IYAS certification. Other certificates and training may be required to in order to serve in other assignments within the department.
