Senior Principal Project Engineer - Space Suit (Onsite)
Collins Aerospace is one of the world's largest suppliers of technologically advanced aerospace and defense products. The Mission Systems business unit provides products and services to global government and commercial customers that enable mission success in the harshest environments of space, in the air, at sea, and on the ground. In Space Systems, we design and manufacture Environmental Control and Life Support Systems (ECLSS) and Active Thermal Control Systems (ATCS) on a number of space platforms including the International Space Station, the U.S. space suit, and the next generation of space vehicles such as CST-100 and Orion.We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to join us as a Sr. Principal Project Engineer to plan and manage projects for the design, development, verification & validation, and operational support of future Space Suit Services (xEVAS) program for the Artemis mission to return humans to the moon.
You will need to combine project management skills with detailed technical intellect to support an Integrated Product Development Team. The next generation space suit services program xEVAS will provide EVA services for both the ISS as well as for lunar missions as part of the Artemis program to return humans to the moon. Primary Responsibilities:
Planning, proposing and executing space flight hardware projects.
Controlling team activity, scope and schedule.
Managing and controlling cost accounts
Developing and managing an integrated master schedule
Analyzing and resolving critical path / schedule challenges
Managing risks & opportunities
Conducting project design and status reviews
Coordinating and leading multi-function teams, coordinating team meetings, and driving action items to closure
Tracking progress on deliverables
Initiating and coordinating engineering changes
Conducting root cause investigations
Support a cross functional team of engineers focused on system level engineering for the program
Develop/Support/Review customer system engineering Data Requirements Deliverables (DRD), customer review milestones, internal system engineering review milestones
Develop/Support/Review system engineering work products including:
System requirements/specifications; System architecture/trade/studies/CONOPS/OPSCONS; System analyses; System Verifications; Systems Integration & Test
Coordinate system level engineering in:
Human Factors
Reliability
Safety
Electro-mechanical Design
Mechanical Design
Electrical Design
Avionics/Power Systems
Pressure Systems/O2 Systems
Hardware Interfaces
Mission Operations
Software
Power Systems (Battery and Spacecraft)
Identification of system risks/opportunities and mitigation/response plans
Interface with the customer and internal stakeholders as a primary technical focal for the system
This position requires strong interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written), technical experience, and the ability to work as a cross-functional team leader. Direct communication with customers, primarily NASA, will be required at times. You will manage projects that produce systems & components which meet stringent operating requirements and provide extraordinarily high reliability.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations OR Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years experience OR In absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience is required
Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder

Preferred Qualifications:
15+ years of spaceflight hardware development through certification and flight
Relevant life support system experience: human waste management systems, space suit systems, thermal control systems, air revitalization systems (CO2/H2O/trace contaminant removal), pressure control systems, or other equivalent systems
Proficiency in:
JIRA and Microsoft Project for managing project execution
Jama for requirements management
NoMagic MagicDraw & Cameo Systems Modeler for Model Based systems Engineering

The salary range for this role is 118,000 USD - 246,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
