What you will do

To drive Mack and Volvo dealer performance across a wide array performance metrics, strategies, and alignment initiatives. Reporting to the SVP, Distribution and Channel Development, this position will manage the team of Regional Dealer Development Directors located throughout the United States and Canada. This position will also lead the strategy, management and performance of our company-owned dealership locations which include the Mack locations in Calgary, AB, and Lethbridge, AB, and the dual-branded Mack/ Volvo location in Williston, VT.

This position will drive cross-functional Mack and Volvo dealer performance by working with the roughly 118 Dealer Principals throughout the US and CAN. Major focus areas of this position will be to continue to drive dealer market performance strategies, location, branding and facility strategies, dealer EV certifications, low performing dealer process, dealer terminations, and new dealer/ channel development strategies. This position will work closely with Volvo and Mack leadership, regional field teams, and cross-functional stakeholders to develop plans and implement specific strategies designed to improve dealer performance, in all areas, that are aligned with Volvo Group ambitions.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Results driven leader of the Channel Development Team responsible for:

  • Volvo and Mack dealer performance throughout the United States and Canada

  • Driving dealer competence development course completions, certifications, and action plans for sales, parts, service, warranty, general management, etc.

  • Dealer location planning utilizing industry and company data

  • Dealer facility design, scale, and scope utilizing existing and future partners

  • Dealer scorecard implementation, tracking, and improvement

  • Identifying other channel development strategies and activities that are aligned with Volvo Group ambitions around sustainability, profitability, distribution, and ease of doing business

  • Work effectively across both Volvo and Mack stakeholders to build relationships and transform data into actionable strategies that increase market share and improve dealer performance.

  • Work across all sales regions through the US and Canada, primarily through Region Dealer Development Directors, to ensure the above processes and strategies are executed in a timely and professional manner.

  • Work across all functional areas of Distribution and Channel Development (Competence Development, Network Strategy, Remarketing, Arrow Truck Sales, Channel Optimization, Company Owned dealer locations) to increase alignment and to leverage best practices.

  • Work cross-functionally across other departments (truck sales, customer support, parts, commercial operations, Digital & IT, etc.) to achieve business results.

  • Support SVP, Distribution & Channel Development in cross-functional leadership including meeting preparation, messaging, and delivery.

  • May present at Volvo and Mack Dealer Councils, dealer and internal webinars/ meetings, dealer 20 groups, annual company kick-off events, and Greensboro leadership meetings (CAM, Mack ELT, Volvo MTM, GTNA Town Halls, etc.)

  • Through collaboration with the Distribution & Channel Development Controller, and Regional Dealer Development Directors, create action plans to bring Dealer Financial Composite results to corporate and industry target levels.

  • Drive dealer consolidations, mergers and acquisitions, and dealer terminations as appropriate in conjunction with VP Network Strategy.

  • Proactively work with all Distribution & Channel Development team members to improve market performance and customer experience.

  • Other strategic projects as assigned.

Essential Education and/or Training Qualifications and Certificates

• Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field

• Master’s degree preferred

Preferred Experience and Knowledge

• 10+ years of experience working with an independent dealer channel. Preferably in a leadership role.

• In depth knowledge of Heavy-Duty Truck, Agricultural, or Construction equipment dealership operations.

• Skilled in commercial and/or distribution strategies and best practices

• Strong understanding of financial principles and key drivers for dealer and distribution operations

• Tangible experience and skills highlighting ability to manage complex challenges in a dynamic environment

• Demonstrated accomplishments in senior level project management

• Extensive negotiating, coaching, and persuasive selling skills.

• Demonstrated track record of successfully developing, implementing, and measuring dealer channel actions/ improvement plans

• Excellent presentation and communication skills

Other Requirements

• Travel 25% - 50%

• Location: Flexible - Volvo Group's North American Headquarters is located in Greensboro, NC. This position requires a frequent level of travel and supports multiple locations supporting a flexible work environment where one is not required to live in the Greensboro, NC area but understands that they will be required to attend meetings at a variety of places, our headquarters being a common location.
