Fostered by the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency, the Northeast Emergency Management Training and Education Center (“NEMTEC”) primary purpose is to provide a current, relevant, and comprehensive training and education program across New England. Through virtual, hybrid, and in-person modalities, NEMTEC will align and share training resources between the states, work collaboratively to develop and implement training and education programs to meet emerging needs, and manage an extensive curriculum and cadre to benefit the region's emergency management professionals. The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) is recruiting to fill the position of Virtual Emergency Management Instructor. This is a part-time, contract position with no benefits. This position will be responsible for utilizing knowledge of adult learning theories and learning styles to maximize learning success and ensure the overall effectiveness of the course instruction.Instructor applicants of this announcement must be able to provide instructor-led content in a virtual classroom. Preference will be given to applicants with evening and weekend availability.Instructor applicants of this announcement must be knowledgeable and able to instruct at least one course from the curriculum of the National Emergency Management Basic Academy (see below). - Foundations of Emergency Management (L0101) - Science of Disaster (L0102) - Planning: Emergency Operations (L0103) - Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP) (L0146) - Public Information Basics (L0105) (Formally G-290 Basic PIO) MEMA will also consider applicants capable of instructing, or who are Subject Matter Experts, in the following wide-ranging Emergency Management topics. - Recovery - Mitigation - Planning - Debris Management - Volunteer and Donations Management - Mass Care - Incident Command System - Instructional Presentation and Evaluation Skills Note: The above is not the sole nor an exhaustive list of the Center’s curriculum and priorities. The instructor is responsible for preparing the virtual classroom for training, delivering instruction in accordance with Instructor Guides (IG), Program of Instruction (POI), and the direction of the Course Manager, conducting practical activities, managing the classroom, coaching students, and administering exams and course evaluations. * * Minimum Qualifications: - Must have a minimum of five years of relevant emergency management experience (or a closely related field). - Working knowledge of adult learning principles and methods for teaching and instructing individuals and groups. - Excellent presentation skills. - Must be able to commit to multi-consecutive day assignments, on varying schedules. - Must be able to commit to weekend and/or evening assignments. - Local candidates may have the option to deliver in-person trainings in Massachusetts and throughout New England. - Must be knowledgeable in computers, MS Office software, and audio-visual technology. - Ability to facilitate virtual and hybrid training environments, to include mastering online training platforms.
