PURPOSE OF JOB:

The Accountant is responsible for preparing journal entries and analyzing financial reports, including balance sheets, income and loss statements. Assist the Accounting department in creating accurate and timely records for the organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure accurate and appropriate recording and analysis of revenues and expenses.

  • Resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities.

  • Prepare journal entries and perform general account analysis and reconciliations.

  • Key contributor to period-close process including ensuring accurate and timely recordings of period activity.

  • Identify and analyze reconciling items between the general ledger and supporting details, and follows through on the clearing of these items.

  • Review Accounts Payable transactions, vs. the P&L and making corrections as necessary.

  • Perform SG&A expense variance analysis.

  • Analyze reports detailing monthly expenses by cost center for multiple locations.

  • Responsible for the management of and period balancing and reporting of specific and complex balance sheet accounts.

  • Supports other functional areas by providing requested data, answering accounting questions, participating in cross-functional teams and provides training as appropriate.

  • Seeks process improvements and problem resolution in all aspects of the job function.

  • Assist in establishing and monitoring the implementation and maintenance of accounting control procedures.

  • Analyze financial information to recommend or develop efficient use of resources and procedures, provide strategic recommendations and maintain solutions to business and financial problems.

  • Examine accounting records, including financial statements, trial balances and other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness and conformance to standards defined within the department.

  • Develop and implement proper keeping of financial records, making use of current technologies.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Business Accounting or related field

  • Minimum of 2 years’ related experience

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Thorough knowledge of US GAAP, including software development costs

  • Organized with the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, negotiation and problem solving skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to manage multiple conflicting priorities

  • Strong reporting and analytical skills

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products including Word, Excel (i.e. pivots, v-lookups), and PowerPoint

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Extensive sitting, phone, and computer use

  • Extend and reach with hands and arms and use hands and fingers

  • Occasionally required to bend, kneel, stoop, or crouch

  • May be required to lift, move, and carry up to 15 lbs.

  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Hearing ability to effectively communicate via the telephone and in person

  • Ability to communicate verbally on the telephone and in person

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The employee will primarily work in a typical office environment including use of cubicles, computers and overhead lighting. Temperature extremes will be minimal to nonexistent.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee will be required to use a computer, spreadsheets, data base management, email, and the Internet. The employee is frequently required to use a calculator; fax, copy machine, and phone system.

The Target Pay Range for this position is $66,010 - $82,000 annually. At Mars, pay decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, education, training and budget.
