Department Summary

The Office of Admissions is responsible for attracting, recruiting, and enrolling a highly qualified, diverse student body. It has overall responsibility for representing the university to prospective students and their families at a variety of venues including campus events, high schools, and colleges in Oregon and throughout the United States, and at selected international locations. Guided by a strong commitment to excellent customer service, the office supports students throughout the application and enrollment process. Each year the office researches and responds to close to 100,000 inquiries related to the admissions process as well as evaluating approximately 30,000 applications for admission. The work is completed within University admission standards, and policies, as well as related state and federal laws and regulations. Admission is offered to approximately 18,000 students and results in the enrollment of nearly 5,500 new undergraduates each year.

Position Summary

The Evaluation Manager will be expected to provide leadership, supervision, direction, and support to the domestic processing team of the Office of Admissions, a group of individuals tasked with helping to facilitate the enrollment of a diverse and academically distinguished student body at Oregon's premier public university. Additionally, in evaluating applications and administering special admissions programs, the incumbent will be expected to contribute perspective on process innovation and development, such as to allow for increased operational efficiency and scalability in anticipation of future growth in enrollment. In a supervisory capacity, the person in this position will create, manage, and update procedures for domestic application processing for all levels of applicants (Undergraduate, Graduate, Post Bachelor, and other special categories), while overseeing the work of up to 8 full-time and seasonal specialists in the Office of Admissions who are tasked with the evaluation of over 30,000 applications each year. The search to fill this position represents an opportunity for individuals interested in admissions or enrollment management who are looking to contribute to the operations of a dynamic and institutionally integral office at a leading public research university.

Additional expectations of the position:

• This position must be able to work occasional nights and/or weekends to fulfill special projects and events.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's degree (an additional two years of work experience may be substituted for the BA).

• Three years of professional work experience in a position that required administrative functions and/or office management.

Professional Competencies

• Excellent communication skills both written and in-person; attention to detail.

• Organizational, problem-solving, project management, and time management skills.

• Proven proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook (or similar scheduling/calendar programs), and familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.

• Ability to manage stressful or difficult situations (e.g. periods of extremely heavy workloads, continual deadlines, changing priorities, and interruptions) in a calm, constructive, and professional manner, particularly as it relates to handling sensitive and/or confidential information.

• Ability to communicate and work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in higher education.

• Two years of supervisory experience.
