Aspen Aerogels, Inc. Quality Technician in E. Providence, Rhode Island

Aspen Aerogels® is a rapidly growing aerogel technology company founded in 2001 to capitalize on patented advances in aerogel manufacturing. Aspen’s extensive portfolio of proprietary aerogel products are manufactured at scale and sold worldwide in the Electric Vehicle, Energy Infrastructure, and Power Generation industries. Aspen is a Tier 1/2 Automotive supplier of PyroThin® thermal barriers, and our Pyrogel® and Cryogel® insulation products are used by virtually all leading petrochemical and refining company across more than 50 countries. The quality control technician performs laboratory testing to determine chemical and physical characteristics or composition of materials for quality control and process control by performing the following duties:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assures all job activities adhere to company Environmental, Health and Safety requirements.

  • Performs various test procedures on incoming raw materials, in process materials for production, and finished product

  • Submits written and oral responses to out of control test results

  • Enters complete and accurate data records into electronic data management system

  • Operates and maintains lab equipment, and able to troubleshoot malfunctions

  • Maintains good housekeeping standards in work environment

  • Operates with little or no supervision, self-motivated

  • Prepares chemical solutions and standards according to standard formulas.

  • Records data in spreadsheets

  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A High School diploma is required. An Associate’s degree or completion of some college work in a scientific discipline is desired.

  • Hands on experience with analytical equipment such as balances, mechanical test equipment, and chromatography

  • Basic knowledge of statistics and control charting

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment required, quality lab desirable

  • Good communication skills, both oral and written.

  • Strong computer skills: email, data/document management system, excel, word and other software programs.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with ERP systems such as Oracle or SAP

  • Must be able to work independently and adapt in a dynamic environment.

  • General math proficiency.

  • Good organizational skills, able to multitask with commitment to accuracy.

  • Good troubleshooting and analytical skills

  • Good attention to detail.

  • Ability to learn and follow written standard operating procedures.

  • Occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions

  • Occasionally exposed to extreme heat or cold (non-weather)

  • Occasionally exposed to bloodborne and airborne pathogens or infectious materials

  • While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate; The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include:Close vision; Distance vision; Color vision; Peripheral vision; Depth perception and ability to adjust focus
