Responsible for providing health care services to students under the supervision of the school nurse.2. Responsible for clerical tasks under the supervision of the principal and secretary/business manager.QualificationsEducation1. High school diploma2. Certification in multimedia first aid3. Certification in CPR commensurate with age group4. Completion of a state approved medication administration course5. Possession of a valid Iowa driver license6. Trained in the identification and reporting of child abuse7. Trained in and experience as a non-violent crisis intervener8. Must possess skills necessary to substitute for the secretary/business manager and school nurse.9. Proficient in utilizing the food service record management software10. Proficient in utilizing Aesop System11. Proficient in utilizing Powerschool SystemAbilities and Knowledge1. Ability to relate positively and effectively with students, staff and parents.2. Ability to recognize sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.3. Ability to read and follow directions accurately.4. Ability to maintain health records and files.5. Ability to utilize various computer software programs.6. Knowledge of and ability to identify common health problems.7. Knowledge of appropriate referral patterns.8. Possess excellent office and telephone procedures.9. Ability to be trained in computer word processing/database functions.10. High efficiency and organization.11. Ability to problem solve various health or office situations.12. Demonstrates excellent usage, punctuation, and spelling skills.Health Paraprofessional Responsibilities1. Provide first aid within limits outlined by the health office policies and in accordance with skills taught in approved first aid and CPR courses.2. Administer medications and records according to the health office policy.3. Contact school nurse in case of major illness or serious injury of a student or school personnel.4. Contact the parents of the ill or injured students in accordance with established health office policy and, if necessary, prepares the student(s) to be transported.5. Communicate with appropriate school personnel regarding disposition of student(s) sent to the health office.6. Record health office visits, students’ symptoms and the disposition.7. Assist in communicable disease prevention by reviewing and communicating immunization needs of students.8. Assist with health screening activities.9. Maintain and file health office records.10. Maintain a clean and neat health room environment.11. Perform other related duties as assigned per Health Services Supervisor, school nurse and/or building principal.12. Demonstrate a commitment to multicultural gender-fair polices and practices.13. Provide transportation on an as needed basis. Clerical Paraprofessional Responsibilities1. Receptionist: office visitors, telephone and intercom.2. Accountant for school lunch/breakfast programs.3. Maintains student attendance records and makes appropriate attendance calls.4. Prepare, organize, and maintain regular and special education files.5. Maintain cumulative folders.6. Communicate messages and information to students, parents, staff.7. Sort/distribute mail.8. Copy materials as needed.9. Perform other related duties as assigned per Secretary/Business Manager and/or building principal.Other Requirements1. Ability to lift, push and pull up to 50 lbs.2. Ability to sit, stand, walk.3. Perform other duties as assigned.4. Model to students and peers a commitment to appropriate public behavior toward all students, workplace, colleagues and the public.
