Reporting to the University of Colorado Denver AVC/DOS, the Director of Case Management and Associate Dean of Students supports the CU Denver Community by advocating for students, addressing concerns, and promoting wellness. The position is responsible for day-to-day management of the Office of Case Management and advising the AVC/DOS of progress on strategic initiatives, goal implementation, and program evaluation. The Associate Dean will develop, implement, and assess programs that support students' health, well-being, and safety and will work with students, faculty, and staff to create and maintain a campus culture of health and well-being. The Director of CM/ADOS may need to receive/respond to off hours phone calls and texts in the case of a high-level campus emergency involving students and high-risk situations.

The Director of Case Management and Associate Dean will supervise the Office of Case Management and have fiscal oversight of that budget managing general funds, grants, donor funds, purchasing, and student fees. They will also be involved in managing high level CARE, Student Conduct, and Victim Advocacy cases. In capacity as the Associate Dean of Students this position will serve as a backup for the AVC/DOS.

The Director of Case Management and Associate Dean will co-chair the Campus, Assessment, Response & Evaluation (CARE) Team alongside the Assistant Director of Case Management. The Director of Case Management and Associate Dean of Students will meet with students referred to the office and work with the case management team to aid them in navigating University systems and providing advocacy. This position will chair the Postvention Committee, be a member of the Tri-Institutional Campus Assessment and Response Team (CART) and serve as a consultant to the Special Admissions Committee.

This role will work closely with the AVC/DOS, assisting with emergency response to campus health and safety initiatives and crisis, policy review, and program evaluation. The Director of Case Management is responsible for managing budgets for the Office of Case Management, strategic planning for Case Management and will support the hiring and supervising case management staff.

What you will do:

  • Provide immediate support and backup for the AVC/DOS in daily functions.

  • Assist the AVC/DOS in responding to campus crisis and student emergencies

  • Commits to establishing and nurturing strong, positive relationships with students

  • Co-chair the CARE Team working to ensure processes are streamlined and up to industry standard in the fields of behavioral intervention teams and threat assessment and management processes.

  • Educate Staff, Faculty and Students about CU Denver's reporting process to help build a culture of reporting students of concern on campus.

  • Helps establish a student culture where diversity is encouraged and where students learn to respect differences, take responsibility for their actions, and exercise leadership

  • Advocates for student concerns/issues and acts as an agent to promote positive institutional change

  • Develop key strategies within the department and campus wide as they relate to crisis response, student risk-assessment, student conduct, etc.

  • Develop, update, maintain, and manage processes in the unit and campus wide, related to student risk-assessment, student death notifications, student conduct procedures, crisis response, referrals, etc.

  • Monitors budgets for assigned areas of responsibility

  • Responsible for fiscal management of the department budget, including analysis of spending, forecasting for the year, and assuring that resources are used as intended.

  • Serves as a liaison between students and college departments, and campus partners. Works closely with the departments to ensure students' needs and concerns are addressed

  • Develop and nurture strong positive relationships with academic programs in order to enhance resources that support students

  • Serves as a member of the University's Emergency Response Team and other committees as assigned

  • Promote the services of SESS, and the interconnection of health and well-being; identify barriers to communicating the need for seeking help; create avenues for increased awareness and utilization; and advise campus leaders on population health-related issues.

  • Serve as a consultant to special admissions for students coming to CU Denver, who may be in need of additional support from the outset.

  • Serve as an appeal reader for student conduct and academic misconduct appeals.

  • Work with the AVC/DOS and Director of Student Conduct to pilot new Restorative Justice programming on campus.

  • Provide strategies, insight and expertise related to student crisis and student needs when serving on SESS or University committees as requested.

  • Participate in campus activities (Orientation, Convocation, Commencement, student events, etc.).

  • Support the AVC/DOS in policy review and development as it relates to campus health and safety initiatives aimed at improving the student experience and accessibility of resources.

  • Seek out, apply for, and help manage grants for the AVC/DOS areas.

  • Support AVC/DOS procurement functions including purchase orders, travel/reimbursement expense reports, and payment vouchers in accordance with university policies.

  • Work with the Finance and Administration Team for purchasing, Purchase Orders and Accounts Payable.

  • Has the ability to act on behalf of the AVC/DOS.

Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)

  • A bachelor's degree in counseling, psychology, social work, student development, higher education, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.

  • Six (6) years of diverse and progressively responsible experience in higher education, crisis management, or related field, in which three (3) years must have been spent supervising staff.

Preferred Qualification to possess (Preferred Qualifications)

  • A master's degree or doctorate in education, communication, student affairs, social work, psychology / counseling, public administration, higher education, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.

  • Demonstrated progressive leadership experience in Higher Education.

  • Experience leading or co-leading a Campus Behavioral Intervention/Threat Assessment Team.

  • Training/certification in any of the following: NABITA threat assessment tool, WAVR21, SIVRA-35, or experience utilizing risk rubrics to classify risk.

  • Experience with budget oversight and/or fiscal responsibilities.

  • Experience with program evaluation and assessment.

  • Experience with Student Conduct and/or Restorative Justice.

  • Experience applying for and managing grants.

Conditions of Employment

  • Occasional work during the evening and/or weekends may be required.

  • This position follows a hybrid work structure where employees can work remotely or from the office, as needed, based on demands of specific tasks or personal work preferences. Working from the office is encouraged when working on tasks that require a high degree of collaboration.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $91,469 - $100,000.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
