Coordinator of Student Success

 

The Coordinator of Student Success assists the Director Student Success with initiatives relating to the persistence, retention and eventual graduation of students at Southern Utah University. Of these initiatives, the coordinator is primarily responsible for day to day office management of the SUU first-year peer mentor program (the Aces).

 

The Aces are a group of highly-trained students that provide premiere-level peer mentoring to all first-year students through consistent outreach and connection offering caring, knowledgeable support prior to and throughout a student's first year. The Aces play a crucial role in the recent accomplishments related to retention and completion that have garnered national attention for SUU..

 

The first date of consideration for this position is May 20, 2024.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

•

Collaborate with the Director of Student Success in leading the Aces, SUU's

first-year peer mentoring program, by:

 

•

Supporting Aces throughout the day by answering questions and

providing guidance as they navigate challenging student situations

 

•

Overseeing team administration by managing the logistics of hiring and onboarding, ensuring that Aces arrive to work on time and stay on-task, approving time, creating meeting agendas, and other related duties

 

•

Participating in the planning and implementation of trainings, meetings, and retreats

 

•

Meet regularly with individual Aces to offer mentorship, discuss their

strengths/areas for growth, ensure their well-being both in and out of the classroom, provide ongoing training, and oversee their Professional

Development Projects (tailored initiatives designed to enhance resumes,

develop employable skills, and contribute to persistence and retention efforts).

 

•

Collaborate with the Director of Student Success to plan and execute

initiatives and processes related to onboarding new students, including

but not limited to Personalized Visits, Thunder U, online orientation, and

the development of the new student communication plan.

 

•

Maintain and staff The Nest (SUU's walk-in help center), ensuring a

positive environment where excellent customer service is provided to all

students, staff, faculty, and community members who seek help.

 

•

Assist in the implementation of retention and persistence initiatives, as

needed.

 

•

Other duties as assigned

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

 

•

Bachelor's Degree Required

 

•

Able to work mostly in person, on SUU's campus.

 

•

Experience with Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and basic computer skills

 

•

Excellent skills in gaining trust and respect of student leaders

 

•

Ability to lead a diverse group of student leaders and motivate them to stay focused and accountable

 

•

Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with students (and parents, in some cases) both in a supervisory capacity and in educating students about student success

 

•

Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as outstanding interpersonal skills.

 

•

Demonstrated ability to be proactive

 

•

Ability to compile, record, analyze and summarize data with great attention to detail.

 

•

Excellent time management and organizational skills, including the ability to plan, review, prioritize, and organize workflow and procedures.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

• 1-2 years of experience with peer mentoring in a higher education setting
