WSP USA Seasonal Materials Field & Mobile Laboratory Technicians (Rotational, 6 Months Term) in AB, Canada

The Opportunity:

At WSP our field and mobile laboratory testing services are market-leading. WSP is looking for Seasonal Intermediate Materials Field and Mobile Laboratory Technicians, to support our operations in remote northern Alberta and British Columbia. These positions will be on a “ rotational shift” of 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off. Reporting to the project and/or area manager, you will oversee field and laboratory testing of asphalt, soils, and aggregates in accordance with CSA and ASTM test procedures, while providing support to the engineering team.

What you can expect to do here:

Responsibilities will include conducting various tests on asphalt pavements, aggregates, and soils, in both field and mobile laboratory environments. This assignment is excellent for those individuals who want to get out in the field and be part of large-scale construction projects.

This position will require working on out-of-town remote projects in northern Alberta and British Columbia.

  • Perform ACP and soil testing in the field including using a nuclear gauge;

  • Perform aggregate qualification testing programs in accordance with procedures outlined in CSA and ASTM;

  • You will assist the engineering team with site inspections;

  • You will prepare laboratory test reports, and field review reports;

  • You will work closely with a team of engineers and technologists;

  • You will follow and abide by WSP’s health and safety policy;

  • Maintain orderliness of laboratory;

  • A typical workday will be 12 to 14 hours;

  • Other duties as assigned/required.

What you’ll bring to WSP:

  • Post-secondary diploma in Civil Engineering Technology from an accredited institution;

  • 4+ years of relevant experience in materials testing on industrial construction sites, quality assurance & control, and construction monitoring;

  • Valid driver’s license with no restrictions;

  • Minimum of two years continuous experience in ACP and soils testing;

  • Adaptable to changing work environments;

  • Motivated, self-starter who can work well independently or with a team;

  • Good technical writing skills;

  • You must be able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs;

  • Excellent communication, both written and verbal.
